All Users Who Know Javascript
I started messing around with databases in 2005 with Microsoft Access. I moved on to Microsoft SQL Server and finally to PHP/MySQL. I picked up XHTML, CSS and JavaScript on the way. I have worked within a Linux server environment before and am fairly comfortable with command line. I continue to pursue as much education/training as I can with regard to PHP MySQL and hopefully soon mobile app development.
I am a Solutions Engineer (Pre-Sales Engineer) for Alfresco, an Open Source Software start-up, which develops Enterprise Content Management Software.
Prior to working for Alfresco, I was a Software QA Engineer at Novell. I worked on the OES Integration Test Team as the Linux Technical Lead , QA testing components and features of Netware, OES 1 and 2 and SLES 10. I covered storage aspects of those products (Netware: Hardlinks, NFS APIs, Byte Range and Cross-Protocol Byte Range Locks, OPLocks; OES Linux: NSS Hardlinks, NSS NFS APIs, NSS VFS, NSS xAttr; SLES10: Mulitpath and Storage Management). I also worked on install, configuration, virtualization with XEN, LUM (Linux User Management), Patching and Updates, and Dynamic Storage Technologies (Shadow Volumes).
I am a workaholic and a father of five (soon to be six!). I keep reminding myself that I need to get a hobby outside of a computer. (My wife says I have two wives, her and my laptop.)
I like to play chess and go. I enjoy music and learning new things (why does this sound like a personal ad?)
In a previous life I worked as a J2EE Developer/ Architect for the US 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, Louisiana. While employed by the Federal Courts I also worked as Internet Administrator for about 50+ different Federal Courts (a service we provided), on the Help Desk and as a PC Technician.
I've long been a programmer, but after getting an AS degree from SLCC in CIS I decided to go to film school at the U of U. I have been a perl programmer/web developer since 1997.
I am an Australian citizen working in Utah since October 2005. I graduated from University back in 1999 and quite accidentally fell into a career in Embedded Software Development, starting with an Australian Multiport Serial Card / Terminal Server manufacturer called Stallion Technologies. I've since worked for a number of appliance manufacturers including ePipe Inc, SnapGear / CyberGuard and my current employer Opengear LLC.
Opengear builds aggressively priced hardware based Remote Management appliances with a focus on security. Think Console Servers with value adds for remotely managing the rest of the equipment in the Data Center. Opengear is committed to releasing source and hardware specifications back to the community.
I am a mathematician (PhD from SUNY Albany) who is now looking for work in computer programming. I especially like the mix of linear algebra and computer software found in computer graphics, but I'm willing to do work in other things as well.
I have professional experience using Perl, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, etc. in web development; as a student I've used C++ and Java; in personal projects I've used Forth, Assembler, and Python. I'm currently learning Haskell and Common Lisp, and, while I'd be willing to use any language, I'd be especially exited if I could use Python, Haskell or Lisp!
I'm also interested in both digital and analog robotics (I like "dual quaternions"; they have applications in both robotics and computer graphics), technical writing, and being a security guard (especially if I get to use the flame thrower).
I am also interested in part-time work! I'm currently working part-time for EV Source in Logan; working part-time for others will make it easier for me to continue work with EV Source.
Currently working for Canonical publishing the Ubuntu Cloud Images on Amazon AWS, Windows Azure and Open Stack.
