All Users Who Are At The "Experienced" Level
I'm a senior developer and IT manager for Qualtrics, and the owner of Oak Hills Consulting. I do BSD and Linux administration and web and database development for small business.
Used Linux on and off since 1997.
Used F/OS software extensively in all walks of life (still looking (desperately) for a better financial suite than Quicken).
Finished a Masters of Information Systems @ BYU and now have time for PLUG, URUG, UVEF, etc.
I am a Solutions Engineer (Pre-Sales Engineer) for Alfresco, an Open Source Software start-up, which develops Enterprise Content Management Software.
Prior to working for Alfresco, I was a Software QA Engineer at Novell. I worked on the OES Integration Test Team as the Linux Technical Lead , QA testing components and features of Netware, OES 1 and 2 and SLES 10. I covered storage aspects of those products (Netware: Hardlinks, NFS APIs, Byte Range and Cross-Protocol Byte Range Locks, OPLocks; OES Linux: NSS Hardlinks, NSS NFS APIs, NSS VFS, NSS xAttr; SLES10: Mulitpath and Storage Management). I also worked on install, configuration, virtualization with XEN, LUM (Linux User Management), Patching and Updates, and Dynamic Storage Technologies (Shadow Volumes).
I am a workaholic and a father of five (soon to be six!). I keep reminding myself that I need to get a hobby outside of a computer. (My wife says I have two wives, her and my laptop.)
I like to play chess and go. I enjoy music and learning new things (why does this sound like a personal ad?)
In a previous life I worked as a J2EE Developer/ Architect for the US 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, Louisiana. While employed by the Federal Courts I also worked as Internet Administrator for about 50+ different Federal Courts (a service we provided), on the Help Desk and as a PC Technician.
I have been using linux on and off for about 12 years starting with the old redhat distro. I have been using Ubuntu for all my personal computing for about 2 years now and I have setup an Ubuntu file server that uses mdadm raid 5 at home for all of my media. The server also functions as a print server. I have learned how to network the windows machines I have at home with the Ubuntu machines. I am a web developer working for Xactware and I also do some freelance web development under the name Netlobo. I am an expert with PHP, MySQL, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, Smarty, Java, and Apache. I use mostly open source software to do my development.
BS in CIS, Minor in E-Business. I've been programming since I was 10. Perl is my specialty, but I know and regularly program in C (for work), PHP (for work), Ruby (for fun), C++ (for fun), Java (when I have to), and probably several others that I forgot about. I currently work for UnitedHealth Group in their Ingenix EDI Services division doing, you guessed it, Healthcare EDI. I like to sing (some say I'm good), play trumpet, and many outdoor activities. I am a Leo - wait - that's another site... I am an entrepeneur and constantly trying out the newest business idea which I often quickly give up on because I don't have time. I love business, especially internet businesses.
Northern Utah Perl Mongers (NUPM) President
Perl developer (over 7 years of experience)
Comfortable with many linux related technologies, esspecially LAMP development tools.
I am an Australian citizen working in Utah since October 2005. I graduated from University back in 1999 and quite accidentally fell into a career in Embedded Software Development, starting with an Australian Multiport Serial Card / Terminal Server manufacturer called Stallion Technologies. I've since worked for a number of appliance manufacturers including ePipe Inc, SnapGear / CyberGuard and my current employer Opengear LLC.
Opengear builds aggressively priced hardware based Remote Management appliances with a focus on security. Think Console Servers with value adds for remotely managing the rest of the equipment in the Data Center. Opengear is committed to releasing source and hardware specifications back to the community.
I have been an actor/performer and handyman prior to learning programming beginning around 1998. I have a missus and 2 chilluns. And I make great spaghetti
Ruusvuu's Killer Spaghetti! Thanks for letting me join PLUG. I am also a member of PLUG - Phoenix LUG, which has just been on a tirade of mormon-bashing and I am quite tired of it.
